This month's full moon is called the Corn Moon, or Harvest Moon. This is the full moon closest (most times) to the equinox for harvesting corn, the Farmers Almanac attributes the name to the Native Americans. Depending on where you are geographically, corn can refer to MANY things. Corn as we know it in the US did not reach Europe till the 1400s (or 1500s depending on who's history text you read). The Native American's cultivated and harvested corn as people of the US know it now. Other countries it simple means "the leading crop grown in the central district". In England it means wheat, in Scotland and Ireland it means oats. So remember, next time you sit down to draft a spell that depending on the local 'corn' can mean a number of things and isn't always assumed to be the kernel corn of the US.
